WWE has filed a new trademark for a classic name from the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling (WCW), sparking speculation among fans about the potential return of another iconic event.
WWE Files Trademark For ‘SuperBrawl’
On July 22, WWE filed a trademark for the name “SuperBrawl.” The filing is for entertainment services, covering “exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”
A Classic WCW Pay-Per-View
SuperBrawl was one of WCW’s flagship annual pay-per-view events from 1991 until the company was purchased by WWE in 2001. The event featured many of WCW’s most historic matches and moments throughout the 1990s.
The filing for “SuperBrawl” follows a pattern of WWE reviving classic WCW event names for their modern premium live events. In recent years, the company has successfully reintroduced names like “WarGames” to the main roster, while utilizing “The Great American Bash” for NXT and “Starrcade” for special live events. It remains to be seen how or if WWE will use the “SuperBrawl” name in the future.
