WWE Cancels “WWE Late Night” SummerSlam Weekend Event

The “WWE Late Night” event, set to be hosted by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe during SummerSlam weekend, has been canceled. The cancellation was confirmed via Ticketmaster, where the event is now listed as being cancelled.

The show was scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 2, at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in New Jersey, serving as a late-night entertainment option for fans in town for the massive two-night premium live event at MetLife Stadium.

Poor Ticket Sales Cited as Likely Reason

The likely reason for the cancellation appears to be poor ticket sales. According to the ticket-tracking account WrestleTix, the event had sold less than 900 tickets as of July 6. Former Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes was the only talent from the company who had been officially advertised to appear on the show.

A Follow-Up to a WrestleMania Success

This was planned as the second installment of the “WWE Late Night” series, a new concept from the company. The inaugural event, billed as the “Roast of WrestleMania, which took place during WrestleMania 41 weekend in April at Philadelphia’s Trocadero Theatre, was considered a success.

That show featured host Tony Hinchcliffe, a stand-up comedian known for his roast-style humor and his popular “Kill Tony” podcast, roasting various comedians and WWE stars. The WrestleMania weekend event included appearances by Paul Heyman, Nia Jax, Gabriel Iglesias, Sami Zayn, Braun Strowman, and others in an unfiltered, roast format that blended comedy with wrestling.
