AEW President Tony Khan has addressed the possibility of the company’s popular web series, AEW Dark and AEW Dark: Elevation, making a return. In a new interview, Khan said he would “love” to bring the shows back, but only if it makes sense for AEW’s media partners.
Khan Open To Bringing Back AEW Dark
While speaking with Iridian Fierro, Tony Khan was asked about the future of AEW Dark. He expressed his fondness for the shows and confirmed he is open to their return if the circumstances are right.
“I would love to do that,” Khan said. “And I love doing AEW Dark. I have so many great memories. We’ve done hundreds of episodes of it—I love it. But across Dark and Elevation, for either or both of them to ever return, I just want to make sure it makes sense to bring AEW Dark back.”
‘It Has To Make Sense With Our Media Partners’
Khan explained that the decision to end the web series was a “conscious decision” made when the company launched its Saturday night television show, AEW Collision, as part of a new media rights package with Warner Bros. Discovery. He stated that any plan to revive the shows would have to be a collaborative one with their media partners.
“If we bring AEW Dark back, I just want to make sure that whatever we do makes sense to our great media partners with Warner Brothers Discovery,” he explained.
Since the cancellation of AEW Dark and Elevation, the company has primarily used its Ring of Honor brand, which streams on the Honor Club service, as a platform to feature up-and-coming talent and provide more in-ring time for wrestlers not regularly featured on Dynamite. The Saturday night television show, AEW Collision, has also served to expand the number of available spots for the large AEW roster.
