A group of notable superstars released by WWE earlier this year are now officially free agents. As of today, July 31, the 90-day non-compete clauses for stars including Braun Strowman, Shayna Baszler, and Dakota Kai have expired.
A New Wave Of Free Agents Hits The Market
The list of talents whose non-compete periods have ended includes former Universal Champion Braun Strowman, former NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler, former multi-time tag team champion Dakota Kai, and the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Kayden Carter and Katana Chance. Their releases occurred on May 2, and they are now free to sign and appear for any other promotion.
What’s Next For The Former WWE Stars?
While most are now free to explore their options, some have already made their future plans known. Braun Strowman has been announced for several independent dates later this summer. Shayna Baszler has reportedly already returned to the WWE fold in a backstage producer role, a position she could take on even while under a non-compete clause. Dakota Kai has been active on social media, teasing a return to her pre-WWE persona.
The wrestling world will be watching closely to see where these stars land. Another talent from the May 2nd releases, Karl Fredericks (formerly Eddy Thorpe), has already made his return to the independent circuit, appearing at a DPW x Prestige x West Coast Pro event on July 26. Fans will now be waiting for announcements from promotions like AEW and TNA regarding this new class of high-profile free agents.
