WWE SummerSlam – Night 1 Main Event Confirmed

CM Punk has confirmed he will be in the main event of Night One of SummerSlam this Saturday and has offered incredibly high praise for his opponent, World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER.

‘Stealing The Whole Weekend’

Speaking on the Good Guy/Bad Guy Podcast, Punk discussed the importance of his World Heavyweight Championship match being in the main event spot on Saturday’s card. “Me main eventing, I think it’s important. It’s important for the title. I think it’s important for Gunther,” Punk said. “I’m looking forward to not only main eventing SummerSlam but stealing the whole weekend.”

High Praise For ‘The Ring General’

Punk was effusive in his praise for GUNTHER, calling him the best in the world and a star who could have thrived in any era of wrestling. “This dude is the best wrestler in the world. He’s got the gold to prove it, too,” Punk said. “He’s a guy who represents the business to me… you could take him and you could drop him into a territory in the 60s and he would thrive… He transcends decades to me. He’s one of the best right now.”

Punk and GUNTHER will headline the first night of the two-day SummerSlam premium live event this Saturday, August 2nd. The second night, Sunday, August 3rd, is expected to be headlined by the Undisputed WWE Championship Street Fight between the champ John Cena and Cody Rhodes.
