Drew McIntyre has weighed in on the shocking conclusion to Night One of SummerSlam, which saw Seth Rollins cash in his Money in the Bank contract on CM Punk to become the new World Heavyweight Champion. In a post-show interview, McIntyre expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, calling it “karma” for his longtime rival.
‘Karma’s A Hell Of A Thing’
In a WWE digital exclusive interview with Cathy Kelly, McIntyre reacted to the stunning turn of events. He congratulated the new champion and drew a direct line from CM Punk’s past actions to his ultimate downfall.
“Karma’s a hell of a thing,” McIntyre said. “I’ve been watching what’s been going on on Raw with Seth. Seth and I, professional rivals, not like Punk and I. Seth has done exactly to Punk what Punk did to me, and tonight was the cherry on top. Congratulations, Seth. You deserve it.”
Revenge For Past Interference
McIntyre’s comments reference the bitter and personal feud he had with CM Punk in 2024. During that rivalry, Punk repeatedly interfered in McIntyre’s championship matches, costing him the title on multiple occasions. Their feud concluded with Punk winning a Hell in a Cell match at the Bad Blood premium live event.
While McIntyre found a measure of vindication in seeing his rival lose the title, his own night at SummerSlam did not go as planned. Earlier in the evening, McIntyre and his partner, Logan Paul, beat Randy Orton and Jelly Roll in a celebrity tag team match.
