R-Truth has revealed the surprising backstage details behind his decision to cut off his signature dreadlocks live on Monday Night Raw earlier this year. In a new interview, Truth explained that the shocking moment was a complete surprise to everyone backstage except for one person: Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
R-Truth Kept His Haircut Plan A Secret
Speaking on the Ringer Wrestling show, R-Truth detailed how he kept the plan under wraps until the day of the show, when he approached WWE’s Chief Content Officer with the idea.
“Nobody knew about it except, I asked Triple H that day. He did a double take, ‘What did you say?’” Truth recalled. “I said, ‘It’s time. Can I do it tonight. I want to do it on TV.’ ‘Why?’ ‘I feel I need to do it.’” He added that even the producer who brought him the scissors didn’t believe he was going to go through with it until the moment it happened.
The Symbolism Behind R-Truth’s New Look
For Truth, the decision was a deeply personal one meant to symbolize growth, change, and self-belief after his brief departure from and quick return to the company. He also addressed fans who felt he might have “lost his powers” with the change.
“That’s bullsh*t. My essence is being me. They fell in love with me, not this hair,” he said. “This is me. This hair is just to let y’all know, ‘I don’t need that. That doesn’t represent who I am.’ It was me proving myself… We’re fitting to reinvent, adapt, and drive.”
R-Truth’s new, more serious persona has been featured prominently on Friday Night SmackDown since his return. After scoring a recent victory over Aleister Black, fans are now waiting to see what is next for the veteran. With the fallout from SummerSlam set to unfold on last week’s episode of SmackDown, a new direction or rivalry will likely be established for the reinvented superstar.
