AEW star Dustin Rhodes has provided a significant update on the injury he suffered last week during his TNT Championship match. In a post on social media Tuesday, Rhodes revealed that he will require double knee replacement surgery later this month.
Dustin Rhodes To Undergo Double Knee Replacement Surgery
“The Natural” took to his X account to share the unfortunate news with his fans, explaining that the damage to his knees is beyond simple repair. He also made it clear that he is not retiring.
“Knees are both destroyed. I have to go under the knife August 21st,” Rhodes wrote. “They can’t actually fix the damage so we are getting 2 knee Replacements. Damn! #KeepSteppin By the way…….This Is NOT THE END.”
Injury After Brutal TNT Title Loss
This update follows a previous post from last week where Rhodes confirmed he would be “out for a while” and needed “a very invasive major surgery,” stating that the injury was “not a work.” The injury occurred during the main event of the July 31st episode of AEW Collision, where he lost the TNT Championship to Kyle Fletcher in a brutal Chicago Street Fight.
The news of his major surgery leaves his status as a champion in Ring of Honor in question. The 56-year-old veteran is currently one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions with Sammy Guevara and one-third of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions with The Von Erichs. Ring of Honor has not yet announced how they will address the championships held by the injured Rhodes.
