The shocking return of Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam has raised many questions, and a new report from Fightful Select is shedding light on the long road back for “The Beast Incarnate” and the company’s shifting stance on his status over the past 16 months.
The Long Road To Brock Lesnar’s Return
According to the report, WWE’s position throughout 2024 was that Lesnar was “nowhere near returning.” This stance was so firm that one employee was told that Lesnar was not to be included in any video packages or promotional materials, a directive that was also in place for Vince McMahon. A WWE higher-up had also told Fightful very directly that a return would “not be happening any time soon.” The report notes that this stance only began to soften in recent weeks.
Clarifying Brock Lesnar’s Legal Clearance
It was recently reported that WWE’s legal team “cleared” Lesnar for a return, which led some fans to believe he had been cleared of any wrongdoing in connection to the Janel Grant lawsuit in which he is named. The new report clarifies that this is not the case. The “clearance” was a business decision made by WWE’s legal department to bring him back to television, not a legal exoneration. Grant’s legal team has stated they expect more details, including those about Lesnar, to emerge in discovery.
Following his shocking return and attack on John Cena at SummerSlam, Brock Lesnar is scheduled to make his first appearance on weekly television in over two years. “The Beast Incarnate” is advertised to be on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Montreal to officially kick off his program with Cena as part of Cena’s retirement tour.
