A new report has provided a discouraging update on the long-planned NXT Europe brand, suggesting that WWE may have quietly shelved the project.
Talk Of NXT Europe ‘Non-Existent’ In WWE
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported on the current status of the proposed European developmental brand. “In WWE, virtually all talk about NXT Europe is non-existent,” Meltzer wrote, indicating that the project is no longer a topic of internal discussion.
The History Of WWE’s European Expansion
NXT Europe was first announced in August 2022 and was intended to be the successor to the successful NXT UK brand. The NXT UK brand was officially closed down to make way for the new, pan-continental project, with the goal of recruiting and developing talent from all over Europe. However, the launch has been repeatedly delayed due to a number of factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic and major corporate changes within WWE following the TKO merger.
While the future of a WWE-owned European brand remains in doubt, the company has found great success in forming partnerships with established international promotions. In recent months, WWE has engaged in high-profile crossovers with Japan’s Pro Wrestling NOAH, Mexico’s Lucha Libre AAA, and the United States’ TNA Wrestling, a strategy that has allowed them to feature international talent without the overhead of running a full-time brand overseas.
