Jim Ross Says His AEW Contract Expires This Month, Has No Plans To Leave The Company

On the latest episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast, legendary announcer Jim Ross provided a positive update on his health and he also addressed his contract status with All Elite Wrestling, revealing his current deal expires this month.

A Positive Health Update

Ross, who has been beaten cancer, shared more positive news on how he’s feeling. “You know, I feel a lot better, don’t have any lingering issues. And I got good doctors,” he said. “And all I want to hear is ‘you’re cancer free,’ and that’s what the verdict has been the last last several weeks. And that’s important to me.” At 73 years old, he stated, “you don’t want any setbacks.”

Contract Status with AEW

When asked by his co-host Conrad Thompson about the length of his current AEW contract, Ross was candid. “I think my contract’s up in August… like this month,” he revealed. However, he quickly added that he is not planning on going anywhere and is “hopeful” that he will re-sign with the company. His agent, Barry Bloom, is currently working on a new deal. “I’m not worried about it, as you can tell by my demeanor,” he said.

Praise for Tony Khan

Ross spoke glowingly about his relationship with AEW President Tony Khan, crediting him for being incredibly supportive during his health struggles. “I love where I am, because nobody has ever taken care of me as good as Tony Khan is and has,” he stated. “So that’s why I’m so content about being there. I want to stay there in AEW, and I want to work more. I want to be able to contribute more. So that’s my goal. Is to stay healthy and contribute more to the company that pays me.”

Desire to Work More

He expressed a strong desire to increase his on-air presence for the company. After personally requesting to be part of the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view in London, he also stated he would love to call a match at the historic 2300 Arena (formerly the ECW Arena) during AEW’s upcoming residency in Philadelphia. “I’d love to call a match or two or a show or whatever at 2300 arena, because it’s got a lot of history,” he said.

With his health on the upswing and a desire to contribute more, Jim Ross appears poised to continue his legendary career with All Elite Wrestling for the foreseeable future.
