A new report has revealed that AEW original Angelico has been working in a new backstage role for the company for most of this year. According to Fightful Select, the veteran wrestler has been serving as a coach and producer.
Angelico Working As An AEW Coach And Producer
The report states that Angelico has been working as a coach and producer for “virtually all year,” though it is not known exactly when he started in the role. As a specific example, it was noted that he produced the match between Megan Bayne and Emily Rose that aired on this past week’s episode of AEW Collision.
An Active In-Ring AEW Career
Even with his new backstage responsibilities, Angelico remains an active in-ring competitor for both AEW and Ring of Honor. He has been a regular on ROH TV, where he frequently teams with Serpentico, who has also been a producer for the company for several years.
Angelico, who first signed with AEW in 2019 as part of the tag team TH2 with Jack Evans, also recently competed on AEW Collision. On the July 26 episode, he teamed with AR Fox in a losing effort against the duo of Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne.
Angelico is the latest veteran talent in AEW to take on a dual role as both an in-ring performer and a backstage producer. He joins a list of respected wrestlers who also serve as coaches, including Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels, and Serpentico. This “player-coach” model has become a common practice in the company, utilizing the experience of its veteran stars to help guide the next generation of talent. The full report on Angelico’s new role can be found on Fightful Select.
