On the August 18 episode of Monday Night Raw, a cryptic and emotional promo video featuring Bayley aired, in what appears to be the beginning of a significant character change, likely a heel turn, for the former champion. The segment saw a despondent Bayley questioning her career path and taking the blame for her recent lack of success.
A Dark and Personal Message
Sitting backstage, Bayley delivered a vulnerable and dark monologue directly to the camera, expressing a sense of emptiness despite a long and successful career. “I’m not exactly sure how to start this, but I honestly don’t even know how I got here. Right now, I’ve been doing this for almost 13 years, and I’ve never felt the way I feel now. I, in a way, want more but feel less. I want more and feel nothing,” she said.
She continued, reflecting on her journey and taking responsibility for her current state. “The role model… it meant something before I even called myself that, and I was treated like one, before I even saw myself as one. Then I started to realize that I can make a change, that I can be an asset to the division… And now I’m here by myself, and I feel everything leading up to where I am right now has gotten me nowhere,” Bayley stated. “I sit here without anything to show you, without a championship… I can’t remember the last time that I felt proud of myself. And it’s my fault. It’s my fault”.
A Maniacal Ending
The promo concluded in a chilling fashion. After Bayley took a deep breath, the camera’s focus became blurry before cutting to black. A maniacal sound effect then played as the show went to commercial, strongly suggesting a darker path for the superstar.
A Long-Awaited Change
This new storyline direction comes after a period where many fans and critics have voiced frustration online about a perceived lack of significant creative plans for Bayley, who is widely considered one of the most talented and respected performers on the WWE roster. This promo appears to be the start of something bigger for her.
