Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has commented on the possibility of adopting a more relaxed, part-time schedule in the future, similar to the one of Roman Reigns. While he is open to the idea, he also expressed his fear of being away from the fans for too long.
Cody Rhodes On A Relaxed WWE Schedule
Speaking on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast, Rhodes was asked if he sees himself taking on a lighter schedule. He noted that with new non-wrestling projects on the horizon, it’s a possibility, but he remains uncertain.
“I don’t really know, I’m in uncharted territory, there are some projects that are not wrestling projects on my plate that are coming up that I’m very excited about,” Rhodes said. “I’ve not ever been excited about anything outside of pro-wrestling from a professional standpoint, and now I am. So… maybe?”
The Fear Of Hurting The Cody Rhodes Fan Relationship
“The American Nightmare” explained that his biggest hesitation with a part-time schedule is the potential to damage the strong connection he has built with the WWE fans.
“I say maybe because when you connect with a fan, you can’t go away,” he explained. “You can go away for a little bit, if you go away too long, then you’re hurting that relationship, and that’s a scary moment for me.”
Rhodes has several major outside projects in the works, including a role in the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie, which is scheduled to begin filming in September. This could be one of the non-wrestling projects that necessitates a lighter in-ring schedule in the future.
For now, Rhodes’ schedule remains as busy as ever. He is coming off a successful, but brutal, Undisputed WWE Championship defense against John Cena in a Street Fight at SummerSlam this past weekend. The full interview with Cody Rhodes can be heard on the SI Media with Jimmy Traina podcast.
