Spoiler On New Match Set For AEW X NJPW: Forbidden Door

A match for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship has been set for the upcoming AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view. On the upcoming episode of AEW Collision, Nigel McGuinness won a four-way match to become the number one contender for Zack Sabre Jr.’s championship.

Nigel McGuinness’s Victory

According to spoilers from the AEW Collision taping in Cincinnati, a “Technical Spectacle” four-way match took place to determine the challenger for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at the August 24 pay-per-view. The match featured four of AEW’s top technical wrestlers: Nigel McGuinness, Daniel Garcia, Lee Moriarty, and CMLL’s Hechicero.

In the end, it was McGuinness who picked up the victory, forcing Moriarty to tap out. After the match, McGuinness asked Daniel Garcia to be in his corner for the championship bout, a request that “Red Death” accepted.

A First-Time-Ever NJPW Encounter

The match at Forbidden Door will be the first-ever one-on-one encounter between them, Nigel McGuinness and Zack Sabre Jr. Their only previous in-ring interaction was during the Casino Gauntlet match at the All In pay-per-view in 2024. This will also be just the sixth match for McGuinness since he came out of retirement in 2023.

The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match is the latest addition to the card for Forbidden Door, which takes place on Sunday, August 24, at Wembley Stadium in London, England. The full results from the Collision taping can be found here.
