Following her pregnancy announcement on WWE Raw, Women’s World Champion Naomi (Trinity Fatu) and her husband, Jimmy Uso, appeared on a special edition of the “What’s Your Story” podcast to share the emotional details behind the news. The couple revealed that the pregnancy came as a complete shock after a long and difficult journey with fertility issues, which had led them to believe a natural pregnancy was no longer a possibility.
“I Just Really Didn’t Think It Was Possible”
Naomi opened up about her medical history, explaining why she believed a natural pregnancy was no longer possible. “To understand how we really got here, you gotta understand the whole picture, the medical history,” she said.
So earlier in our relationship, probably like before I debuted as a Funkadactyl, I had an oophorectomy, which is the removal of my right ovary.
A Major Surgery in 2020
Years later, while a top star in WWE, she faced another major procedure that led to a lengthy, unannounced absence from television during the ThunderDome era.
Early in my career, 2020, we went through another major surgery, which was a myomectomy… that is removal of fibroids. I had tons and big ones.
Jimmy Uso added context to how serious the surgery was. “It’s supposed to be like, a couple hours, and she was in there for six hours,” he recalled. “Man, I was sitting there losing my brain.” Naomi confirmed she was “gone for like six months after that.”
The Medical Outlook
The cumulative effect of these procedures, combined with her age, led them to believe that they would need medical assistance to conceive. “It also have, like, a lot of scar tissue, so that also affected [things]…” Naomi explained.
On top of being older, 37 now, and on top of only having one ovary, we thought for sure that naturally, I couldn’t anymore.
Discovering the News
She revealed that she found out she was pregnant just over a week ago while on the road, after taking a test mostly to dismiss the possibility. “I found out Sunday on the road, a week ago… in my hotel room,” she said. “Had been feeling a little different, a little weird. Just wanted to take a test to find out and make sure, kind of rule that out, not thinking, because it’s been a long journey with fertility issues that I’ve had. So, yeah, I just really didn’t think it was possible.”
An Emotional Rollercoaster
The surprise news brought on a wave of feelings for the current champion.
I was shocked, man, I’m shocked now. So many emotions. I’m happy, I’m excited, I’m nervous, I’m scared.
Seeing the Heartbeat
Naomi, who is now seven weeks along, shared the powerful moment that all her stress and worry subsided: when she saw her baby’s heartbeat for the first time. She is considered a high-risk pregnancy but noted that so far, “everything looking good.”
Everything that I was stressing and worried about in that moment just went away, and I knew that what is ahead of me… there’s nothing more important than that now.
Professional Concerns
The couple also discussed the professional implications of the pregnancy, as Naomi was at the height of her career as the reigning Women’s World Champion (she vacated the title tonight on Raw). Jimmy Uso explained her initial concerns about her fans and her career momentum.
She ain’t gonna say this, but she felt like she’s let our fans down, like she felt like there was like a step back because she is cooking… she thought about them right off the bat.
Telling the Family
Jimmy also shared the touching story of telling his two children from a previous relationship. After some initial worry about how his daughter, the youngest, might feel, he was moved by her supportive reaction.
She said, ‘Dad, when I told her that we’re having a baby and I could tell the smile, she’s just like so you all right, she goes, I’m so happy because I think about Trinity, and she goes, she deserves this.’ And I just said, man, thank you. I did not expect to hear that.
Naomi added how much their approval meant to her. “They are my kids before anything,” she said. “So it was very important to me that they were happy and okay with it.”
The couple is now embracing the journey, with Naomi concluding, “The bloodline continues.”
