Brian Jossie, known to WWE fans as Abraham Washington, has been released from the hospital and is now home recovering after a life-threatening medical emergency last month that saw him placed on life support. His significant other, Marnae June Barnum, provided a detailed update on her Instagram account.
The situation began last month when Jossie, who has been competing in bodybuilding since his time in wrestling, was taken to an emergency room with severe stomach pain following a show. According to reports, tests determined that he had suffered a tear in his intestines, which required immediate surgery.
While the initial surgery was successful, Jossie experienced serious complications afterward. He aspirated, which caused fluid to go into his lungs. This led to him being put on a ventilator and placed in an induced coma, and he was on life support for a period of time.
Brian Jossie is best known for his time in WWE from 2009 to 2012. He first appeared on the ECW brand as the host of his own talk show, “The Abraham Washington Show,” with WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas serving as his sidekick. After the ECW brand was discontinued, he returned to the developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling. He re-emerged on the main roster in 2012, rebranding himself as A.W. and forming a talent agency called “All World Promotions.” As a manager, he most notably led the team of Titus O’Neil and Darren Young, The Prime Time Players. His WWE tenure ended in August 2012.
After nearly a month in the hospital, Jossie has now recovered enough to be sent home. In her update, Barnum shared how much progress he has made in a short time. “After almost a month in the hospital, Brian is finally home! What a crazy, unexpected month August has been,” she wrote. “Just last week, he could barely sit on the edge of his bed without help. Today, when we were leaving they went to get a wheel chair, he refused, and he insisted on walking out on his own with me.”
Barnum also expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they received during the difficult time. “I want to thank everyone so much for all your love, prayers, texts, comments, and phone calls,” she posted. “To those who sent money… we both really appreciate it. We’ve truly felt all of your love and support. Thank you!” Jossie is now continuing his recovery at home.
