Another expected WWE signee appears to have said his goodbyes to the independent circuit. At Monday’s PROGRESS Wrestling Chapter 183 show, Mike D Vecchio dropped his PROGRESS Atlas Championship and received a standing ovation in what was billed as a farewell appearance.
A Farewell Appearance For Mike D Vecchio
Vecchio lost his championship in a three-way match against Will Kroos and the new champion, Gene Munny. Following the bout, the UK-based promotion seemed to confirm his departure on their social media.
“In what could be his final PROGRESS match for the foreseeable future, Mike D gets a standing ovation from the fans…” the company wrote.
WWE’s European Recruitment Drive
This follows the recent farewell appearance of another expected WWE signee, Zozaya, who said his goodbyes to RevPro. It was first reported in May that WWE was closing in on signing three talents from its European tryouts: Zozaya, Aigle Blanc, and Mike D Vecchio.
A report from Fightful Select at the time indicated that the belief within WWE was that any talent signed from the European tryouts would be starting with the company in September. This was followed by a PWInsider report that noted WWE was putting a lot of attention into international recruitment, with internal talk of finally launching the long-planned NXT Europe brand.
With two of the three reported signees now having had their farewells, it appears that a new class of international talent is set to arrive at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, next month.
