An update has been provided on the injury status of AEW star Swerve Strickland. According to a new report, the former AEW World Champion is scheduled to undergo surgery this week for his torn meniscus, a move that will see him miss “considerable time” in the ring.
Swerve Strickland To Undergo Surgery This Wednesday
Bodyslam.net first reported that Strickland will have surgery on Wednesday, August 27, a report that Fightful and Dave Meltzer later confirmed. The injury is a legitimate one that Strickland has been dealing with since 2019, but it was aggravated in the post-match angle at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
The Aftermath Of The Forbidden Door Main Event
At the Forbidden pay-per-view on Sunday, Swerve unsuccessfully challenged Kazuchika Okada for the AEW Unified Championship. After the match, Okada and the Don Callis Family attacked Swerve’s knee, which was a storyline explanation to write him off of television for his surgery and recovery.
It was previously reported that Swerve was expected to take time off after the All In event in July, but those plans were changed. We wish him a speedy recovery.
