Lex Luger Gives Major Update On Goal To Walk Again; DDP Details Recent Heart Procedure

Appearing together on Busted Open Radio today, Lex Luger and Diamond Dallas Page provided updates on their respective health journeys. Luger discussed the incredible progress he has made in his goal to walk again, while Page gave details on the recent heart procedure that saw him briefly hospitalized last week.

Page addressed his recent health scare, confirming he experienced Atrial Fibrillation, or AFib, for the second time in three years. He underwent a cardioversion procedure to restore his heart’s rhythm. “The first one, they didn’t go too hard enough to get me back online… they came back, gave Frankenstein some more juice. Boom, I packed into back into where I’m supposed to be with a heartbeat,” Page explained. He also said that he will undergo a cardiac ablation on September 16th, a procedure he says has been improved with new technology since 2024. “The doc told me that… it should be the last one you’ll ever have,” he said.

Lex Luger, who suffered a spinal stroke in 2007, shared an update on his own recovery. “It’s an amazing journey the past 14, almost 15 months,” he said. Luger noted that his new goal is to walk completely unassisted. “We’re going into the full walk mode, like unassisted. That’s what we’re working towards,” Luger stated. He cited major quality-of-life improvements, such as being able to drive and stand up in the shower.

Luger also recounted the initial grim diagnosis he received from doctors at the Shepherd Center, a world-renowned spinal cord injury center. “We had the family meeting, and they said that you have a 2% chance of any type of meaningful recovery,” Luger recalled his sister being told. “They’re telling you how to prep the house… for the rest of your life.” The doctor noted that a 2% chance was “better than most, because most people who come into Shepherd’s… have a 0% chance of ever regaining anything.”

The two friends detailed the intensive therapy regimen Luger now undergoes, which includes work with specialist Dr. Autumn Swanson and treatments in what Luger called a “space shuttle” zero-gravity chair combined with a large TENS unit and red light therapy. Despite DDP’s own procedure, Luger confirmed they were still scheduled to work out. “I call him up, and he goes ‘we’re working out’,” Luger said. “I go, ‘Wait a second, a hospital bed, and we’re going to work out on Friday morning?’ He goes, ‘Yeah’.”

When asked about their relationship, Luger admitted they were not close during their WCW days. “I used to call him Gumby with his yoga mat… I was brutal,” Luger said. This stands in stark contrast to their current bond, forged through Luger’s recovery process.

Luger concluded by stating his ultimate, humble goal for his recovery. “Just to be able to get out of my car walk in a restaurant, like a regular person, and have a seat with people… be able to go for a walk with my wife, things that we all can take for granted,” he said. “That’s the goal. I don’t expect to be running a marathon or anything, or put anybody in the torture rack.”
