Grayson Waller On Austin Theory: “I’ve Got Rid Of The Dead Weight”

The tag team of A-Town Down Under is officially a thing of the past, and Grayson Waller is not holding back his feelings in storyline about his former partner, Austin Theory. In a recent appearance on the Raw Recap show, Waller called Theory “dead weight” and claimed to have “saved his career.” With Theory currently off of television with an injury, Waller has found a new alliance with The New Day. The on-screen split of the team was officially announced on the July 21st episode of Raw, with Waller stating that Theory was injured.

Following the September 1st episode of Raw in France, Waller joined the Raw Recap show with Sam Roberts and Megan Morant. When asked about his new pairing with The New Day, he went off on his former partner. “I’ve got rid of the dead weight of Austin Theory and this is the best I’ve ever felt in my life. I feel so good. I’m in the best shape of my life,” Waller said. “Do you know how hard it is to deal with someone with an IQ of 65? That might be high. I saw him on the plane. He said, ‘I read a really good book.’ He was reading The Cat in the Hat, and he was struggling.”

Waller continued, bringing up Theory’s WrestleMania 39 victory over John Cena for the United States Championship. He claimed that the win did nothing for Theory’s career and that he was the one who made him relevant. “I watched Theory beat John Cena and no one cared, and I was like, I know how to make an impact on the main roster… I’m gonna save Austin Theory’s career, and that’s exactly what I did,” Waller stated. “He’s never been more relevant than when he was with Grayson Waller. We won the World Tag Team Championships. Who pulled ‘em down? I did. He was losing all the matches. I was helping this guy, and where is he now? Who cares?”

He added that he feels “set free” and that if and when Theory returns, they will “have words.” “I’ve got no problem saying that to his face if he can understand. I’ll have to talk really slow,” Waller said. A recent update from Fightful Select has confirmed that Austin Theory is still a part of the WWE roster but is currently listed as injured, alongside other names like Zoey Stark and Ilja Dragunov.

The on-screen split of the former WWE Tag Team Champions was a direct result of Theory’s legitimate injury. According to a recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE decided to officially end the team and move Waller into a new storyline to keep him on television during Theory’s absence. His new alliance with The New Day has seen him featured in several backstage segments in recent weeks.

Waller’s comments are all in character and set up a program between him and Theory when Theory is medically cleared to return to the ring. The full interview with Grayson Waller can be seen on the WWE Raw Recap show.
