The illegal streaming website Streameast, a prominent destination for wrestling and sports fans seeking unauthorized access to live events, has been shut down in a major global anti-piracy action. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a coalition led by the Motion Picture Association, announced the shutdown today in collaboration with Egyptian authorities, effectively dismantling what it called the “largest illicit live sports streaming operation in the world”.
A Coordinated Global Operation
The shutdown was the result of a year-long investigation that culminated in a raid on Streameast’s offices in Egypt. According to the ACE announcement, Egyptian law enforcement arrested two men on suspicion of copyright infringement and seized equipment used to operate the site’s 80 associated domains. Authorities also seized approximately $123,000 from Visa cards and nearly $200,000 from cryptocurrency wallets, in addition to uncovering a shell company in the UAE used to funnel ad revenue.
ACE reported that in the past year, the network had accumulated more than 1.6 billion visits, with an average of over 136 million monthly visits, primarily from users in the United States, Canada, and the U.K.. Charles Rivkin, chairman of ACE, called the action a “resounding victory”. As a result of the seizure, all former Streameast domains will now redirect to ACE’s “Watch Legally” page.
What the Shutdown Means for Wrestling Fans
While the network offered streams of all major sports, it was a primary destination for a segment of the professional wrestling community. The site provided free, unauthorized access to weekly shows and Premium Live Events from WWE and pay-per-view events from AEW, which are otherwise protected by broadcast rights and subscription services. The shutdown removes a significant source of pirated wrestling content and reinforces the industry’s push for fans to use legitimate services.
