WWE Title Match Is Reportedly Up In The Air For WrestlePalooza

With just over two weeks to go until the inaugural Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20, a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided an update on the card. The report confirms the originally planned WWE Championship match is now “up in the air.” The event is a notable one for the company as it will be the first WWE premium live event to air on ESPN’s new streaming platform.

WWE has confirmed some matches for the show already. The match to crown a new Women’s World Champion is now official for the Indianapolis show. Iyo Sky will face Stephanie Vaquer to determine who will hold the title that Naomi recently vacated due to her pregnancy. The match was made official on the September 1st episode of Monday Night Raw after both women had legitimate claims to a championship opportunity. Vaquer won a number one contender’s battle royal at the Evolution PLE, while Sky was owed a rematch from a previously canceled bout.

Also set for the September 20 event is a tag team match that will see the official in-ring reunion of The Usos. Jimmy and Jey Uso will team up to take on The Vision’s Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. This match is a direct result of Breakker and Reed writing Roman Reigns off of television with a post-match assault at the Clash in Paris premium live event. The reunion of The Usos on the September 1st episode of Raw was a direct response to that attack.

Also reportedly set for the show is a singles match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar. The feud was ignited at SummerSlam when Lesnar made his shocking return after a two-year absence to attack Cena. The status of the Undisputed WWE Championship match for the event is now uncertain.

The originally scheduled match was set to be Cody Rhodes defending his title against Drew McIntyre. The report states that this match is “at last word said to be still up in the air, and it could be McIntyre vs. Randy Orton.” This potential change is a result of the ongoing feud between McIntyre and Orton, which has been a focal point of SmackDown in recent weeks while Rhodes has been away to film “Street Fighter.”.

The full report on the Wrestlepalooza card can be found in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
