A change has reportedly been made to the plans for John Cena’s final retirement match. The match will no longer be held in his home state of Massachusetts. According to new PWInsider.com and WrestleVotes reports, the December 13th Saturday Night’s Main Event special, which will feature Cena’s farewell, is now slated to take place in Washington, DC.
This is a notable shift from the long-standing expectation that his career would end in front of his hometown crowd in Boston. WWE confirmed his final dates in Boston and New York this morning.Â
The original plan for a Boston farewell had been in place for some time. It was first mentioned publicly by Cena’s own father in an interview with local Boston media. The initial reports on the December 13th Saturday Night’s Main Event also had the show pegged for the TD Garden. The reason for this pivot by WWE is currently unknown, but it is a change for what is expected to be one of the most emotional nights in recent WWE history.
John Cena’s retirement tour has been the central storyline in WWE throughout 2025. It has seen him win his record-breaking 17th World Championship, turn heel for the first time in two decades, and then revert to his babyface persona. He is currently feuding with Brock Lesnar. Here are Cena’s remaining dates:
• SmackDown 9/5 in Chicago
• RAW 9/15 in Springfield
• Wrestlepalooza 9/20 in Indianapolis
• Crown Jewel 10/11 in Perth
• RAW 11/10 in Boston
• RAW 11/17 in New York City
• Survivor Series 11/29 in San Diego
• Saturday Night’s Main Event 12/13 in Washington
