WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque has officially confirmed that the Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes, will be at the inaugural Wrestlepalooza premium live event on Saturday, September 20. The announcement, which was made during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” puts to rest any speculation that Rhodes’s current filming commitments for the “Street Fighter” movie would cause him to miss the event.
During his appearance on the show, which is also a part of the ESPN family, Levesque gave a direct confirmation of the champion’s status for the Indianapolis show. “I’ll give you a spoiler right now. Cody will be back [in] Indianapolis,” he stated. The news is a welcome confirmation for fans who were concerned that the champion would be absent from the next premium live event.
Rhodes has been in Australia filming his role as Guile in the live-action “Street Fighter” movie. His absence from WWE programming began after the August 22 episode of SmackDown, where he was attacked by his new rival, Drew McIntyre. Previous reports have indicated that Rhodes’s on-set commitment is not expected to be a lengthy one and that he would be finished filming in time for the September 20 event. Triple H’s confirmation now solidifies those reports.
While his match for Wrestlepalooza has not yet been officially announced, the direction on television has been a clear one. Before his departure for filming, Rhodes was in a heated feud with Drew McIntyre. It is widely expected that the two will face off for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the event in Indianapolis, a match that has reportedly been discussed for it.
The show is already set to feature a singles match between John Cena and Brock Lesnar, a bout to crown a new Women’s World Champion, a mixed tag team match, and a match between the reunited Usos and members of The Vision. The full interview with Paul “Triple H” Levesque, where he also discussed the new partnership with ESPN and other topics, can be seen on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
