There are conflicting reports on the status of Stephanie Vaquer, who had disappeared from WWE TV. A new report from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has confirmed that the injury is considered to be “minor.” However, Bryan Alvarez was told that she is not injured.
Vaquer earned her championship opportunity by winning a 20-woman battle royal at the all-women’s Evolution premium live event in July. Her originally scheduled title match against Naomi at Clash in Paris was canceled after Naomi announced her pregnancy and vacated the Women’s World Championship. On the August 25th episode of Raw, it was announced that Vaquer would still receive her championship match for the vacant Women’s World Title, but that the bout would not take place at Clash in Paris as originally scheduled.
On the September 1st episode of Raw, it was officially announced that Vaquer will now face IYO SKY for the vacant title at the Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20. Adam Pearce stated he needed a week to finalize details before announcing SKY as the opponent. There was supposed to be a contract signing for the match on this week’s Raw, but it was pulled at the last minute.
Vaquer is scheduled to be in action on next week’s episode of NXT. She will team with Rhea Ripley and the new WWE Women’s Champion, Tiffany Stratton, to take on the trio of Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Jazmyn Nyx. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, the situation was discussed.
Dave Meltzer: “She has a minor injury. That’s the situation. I think she’s wrestling next week.”
Bryan Alvarez: “I was told the exact opposite. She has no injury.”
Dave Meltzer: “No, I was told minor injury.”
Bryan Alvarez: “I mean, she’s literally working next Tuesday.”
Dave Meltzer: “Yeah, minor.”
Bryan Alvarez: “So she’s working with a minor injury.”
Dave Meltzer: “Well, everyone works with minor injuries.”
Bryan Alvarez: “Well, if she can work with a minor injury, why can’t she do a contract signing on Raw?”
Dave Meltzer: “I don’t know. I think that because they weren’t clear on everything. So maybe, you know, I don’t know the whole story, but I was told by WWE that it’s a minor thing, it’s nothing to worry about, and she’s going to be doing, you know, she’s going to be doing matches going forward.”
Dave Meltzer: “Did they say a minor injury or a minor thing?”
Bryan Alvarez: “Minor Injury.”
Dave Meltzer: “Minor injury. Yes.”
Bryan Alvarez: “I’m a little skeptical of that one, but I’ll take their word for it.”
Dave Meltzer: “That’s it. That came right from the company.”
Bryan Alvarez: “I know, but they don’t always have to tell the truth.”
Dave Meltzer: “Yeah, that’s true, but what else would it be?”
Bryan Alvarez: “Well, I don’t know, but I mean, my question remains, if it’s a minor injury, how can she do a match next week but she couldn’t do a contract signing?”
Dave Meltzer: “Because they didn’t know.”
Bryan Alvarez: “So she called them and said, ‘I can’t make it, but I can’t tell you why.’ And they found out afterward?”
Dave Meltzer: “No. They knew. They weren’t certain about everything yesterday.”
Bryan Alvarez: “Well, they were certain about everything yesterday because they announced her for a match yesterday.”
Dave Meltzer: “No, I mean the day before. I’m sorry. They weren’t sure. I had heard about it on Tuesday. Well, I asked, you know, afterwards she wasn’t there, I go, like, ‘What’s going on?’ And they just said, ‘Minor, minor injury.’ You know, she’s gonna be on the pay-per-view, most likely. Obviously, you know, whatever happened, she got cleared, and that’s the deal.”
