WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler has spoken publicly for the first time since recently suffering a stroke. In an appearance on his hometown news station, FOX 13 Memphis, Lawler detailed some of the frightening effects of the medical incident, including temporary memory loss, and offered his heartfelt thanks to the fans and family who have supported him.
The news of Lawler’s stroke was first made public by his daughter after he was forced to pull out of a scheduled convention appearance. She confirmed that he had experienced a medical issue at one of his homes in Florida and was taken to a hospital. This was the third stroke the 75-year-old legend has suffered in recent years.
Lawler described the disorienting experience of being in the hospital and not being able to recognize his own family members. “I remember lying in the bed in the hospital, and when people that I knew, like family members, came in, and I didn’t even recognize them,” Lawler said. He also shared his thanks for the outpouring of support he has received. “People kept coming out of nowhere to thank me and prayed for me and everything, and all of that means a great, great deal to me, and I wanna thank ‘em all for all that.”
The news anchor on the program added more details about the effects of the stroke, stating that Lawler has been having trouble with his vision. The anchor also noted that when he first returned home from the hospital, Lawler was not even able to recognize his own home, a chilling detail that illustrates the severity of the medical event he endured.
In addition to this most recent stroke, he also suffered strokes in 2018 and 2023. He also famously had a heart attack live on the air during an episode of Monday Night Raw in 2012, an incident from which he miraculously recovered. Jerry Lawler is now back at his primary residence and continuing his recovery. The full interview can be seen on the FOX 13 Memphis website.
