WWE Raw superstar Stephanie Vaquer has one of the most unique finishing moves in the company, the “Devil’s Kiss.” The move, which sees her trap an opponent in a headscissors and then repeatedly slam their head into the mat, has become a fan favorite, thanks in part to the commentary from Booker T.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the “Insight” podcast, the number one contender for the vacant Women’s World Championship was asked how she came up with the move. She explained that it was a happy accident that occurred during a training session. The move was not something that she had planned, but rather a new position she found herself in after a different move went awry.
“Mistake. I was training. I tried to do something with my coach. I said, ‘If I do this and this.’ I don’t remember it well, but the position changed and I said, ‘This is nice. You can take a DDT, but many DDTs, and not to the neck.’ I said, ‘Okay, I like this,’” Vaquer recalled.
She also revealed that the move was not an immediate hit with everyone. “I remember the first time I did it in Mexico, and many people said it looked weird and not good. I said, ‘No, I like it.’ ‘Maybe don’t do it. It looks weird.’ ‘No, I like it.’ I kept it for a long time. Now, look. It’s a big move,” she said.
Vaquer’s unique finisher is just one of the reasons she has quickly risen to the top of the Raw women’s division. After winning a 20-woman battle royal at the Evolution premium live event, she is now the number one contender for the vacant Women’s World Championship. She is scheduled to face IYO SKY for the title at the upcoming Wrestlepalooza premium live event on September 20.
Before her championship match, Vaquer will be in action on tonight’s “NXT Homecoming” television special. She will team with Rhea Ripley and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton to take on the trio of Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Jazmyn Nyx.
