CM Punk: Having AJ Lee Back In WWE “With Me” Is “Like A Dream Come True”

CM Punk is overjoyed to have his wife, AJ Lee, back by his side in a WWE locker room, calling the experience a “dream come true”. During a recent interview on the Pardon My Take podcast, Punk spoke at length about Lee’s return to the company after nearly a decade away from the ring.

Lee, a fan-favorite star from the 2010s, made her surprise return on the September 5 episode of SmackDown to even the odds in Punk’s feud with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. The two real-life couples are now set for a mixed tag team match this Saturday at Wrestlepalooza.

“I’m having the time of my life,” Punk told the podcast when asked about Lee’s return. “I’m like the uber-nerdiest wife guy. I always like to say I try to spend as much time with my wife as I can, and I spend a lot of time with her. And it never feels like it’s enough. So having her be back in this environment with me at work is like a dream come true”. Punk also praised the dedication Lee has shown in preparing for her first match since 2015. “She’s inspirational, honestly,” Punk said. “Her willpower, a lot of that’s diet. But she’s also super strong in the gym and she’s, like, lifting heavy weights and busting her ass all the time”.

The bout is scheduled for the inaugural Wrestlepalooza event, which will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The show is a landmark for WWE, as it marks the first premium live event to be broadcast under the company’s new five-year media rights deal with ESPN.

Prior to her retirement in 2015, AJ Lee was one of the most decorated and popular performers in WWE’s women’s division. Over her career, she held the WWE Divas Championship three times, with one of her reigns lasting 295 days, a record at the time. Beyond her in-ring championships, Lee also had a memorable run as the General Manager of Raw and on-screen relationships with top stars like Bryan Danielson, Kane, John Cena, and CM Punk himself.
