Pat McAfee made his surprise return to the WWE commentary desk at Saturday’s Wrestlepalooza premium live event, and WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque could not be happier to have him back. During the post-show press conference, Levesque spoke highly about the former NFL star, noting that McAfee is considered “family” within WWE.
McAfee, who had stepped away from his regular commentary duties due to feeling burned out from his numerous other projects, joined Michael Cole and Wade Barrett to call several matches on the inaugural ESPN Unlimited event, which took place in his home state of Indiana. “I also wanna mention Pat McAfee. The only thing that I can really say about Pat is he is family here in WWE. He is every bit of family for us. Love Pat to death and you know, any time he can come and do something with us, it is off the chart good,” Triple H said.
McAfee’s return was a welcome surprise for many fans, who have praised his commentary style. His chemistry with Michael Cole has been a highlight of the shows he has called. While his appearance at Wrestlepalooza was a special one-off for the big event in his hometown of Indianapolis, Triple H’s comments make it clear that the door is always open for McAfee to return to the commentary desk in the future.
In addition to his work as a commentator, McAfee has also stepped into the ring on several occasions, most notably for a run in NXT that saw him compete in a WarGames match. He has also wrestled on the main roster, including a match at WrestleMania.
