AEW President Tony Khan has addressed the absence of the company’s annual Blood & Guts event in 2025, noting that there is still a possibility of the match taking place this year. Speaking at the media scrum following the All Out pay-per-view, Khan explained the logistical challenges of scheduling the massive two-ring steel cage match and hinted that fans should “stay tuned” for future announcements.
The event, which has become a staple of AEW’s programming since 2021, is typically held between May and July, but as of late September, no date for the 2025 edition has been announced, leading to fan speculation.
With the AEW roster currently in a number of faction rivalries, most notably the ongoing war involving Jon Moxley’s Death Riders, Blood & Guts would seem like a natural fit for the current landscape. “I think there is great potential for a Blood & Guts event. It requires a unique seating setup because with a two-ring setup, it involves putting an event on sale, basically telling the people, ‘This is going to be Blood & Guts,’” Khan said. “It’s not a show that is up right now because everyone has seen the seat maps, and there are no double-ring shows up. I do think there is a good chance of that. Please stay tuned.”
The Blood & Guts match is AEW’s interpretation of the classic WarGames match, a concept originally created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987. The match features two teams locked inside a massive, roofed steel cage that encloses two rings, a setup that is closer to Rhodes’ original vision than the modern WWE version. The inaugural AEW Blood & Guts event was held on May 5, 2021, and featured The Inner Circle against The Pinnacle.
The event has been held annually since, with the 2022 edition in Detroit featuring the Jericho Appreciation Society against the Blackpool Combat Club, and the 2023 show in Boston seeing The Golden Elite take on the Blackpool Combat Club. The most recent Blood & Guts took place on July 24, 2024, in Nashville, where Team AEW defeated The Elite.
