During Saturday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view, it was announced that company President Tony Khan will make an “important announcement” on this Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite. While no details were provided on the broadcast, a new report from Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com has provided insight into the current speculation surrounding the announcement.
In the Sunday “Daily Update,” Meltzer addressed the upcoming segment. He wrote, “Most seem to think it’s women’s tag team titles and a tournament.” This suggests that the announcement could be the official introduction of a new championship for AEW’s women’s division.
Meltzer added, “I do know he made women’s tag title belts some time back and said injuries delayed starting the tournament.” Again, we should note that this is informed speculation and none of this is 100 percent confirmed. The topic of AEW Women’s Tag Team Titles has been a recurring subject of discussion among fans and media outlets for several months.
If the speculation proves to be accurate, the introduction of Women’s Tag Team Championships would mark a significant expansion for AEW’s women’s division. The AEW Women’s World Championship is currently held by Kris Statlander and the TBS Championship is held by Mercedes Moné. The women’s roster is arguably at it’s best right now with more women being featured on the weekly shows so it’s a good time to introduce Women’s Tag Team Titles.
Additionally, Orange Cassidy is being heavily teased as the third man teaming with Mark Briscoe and Hologram. If you watched All Out then you saw The Conglomeration basically, without actually saying his name, tell everyone that Cassidy was returning this Wednesday night.
