Macho Man Randy Savage Movie Is In Development

The life of “Macho Man” Randy Savage is set to receive the cinematic treatment, as a new movie about the wrestling legend is currently in development. First revealed by Deadline on Tuesday, the production company Artists for Artists, co-owned by Saturday Night Live star Kenan Thompson and his partner Johnny Ryan Jr., is developing a film based on a script co-written by Savage’s late brother, Lanny Poffo, and screenwriter Eric Shapiro.

The project, which has the working title MACHO, aims to bring the story of one of professional wrestling’s most celebrated and charismatic figures to the screen. Kenan Thompson, a lifelong fan of Savage, shared his excitement for the project in a statement to Deadline. “Beyond excited for this one!! Macho Man is hands down one of the greatest of all time and can’t wait to bring his story to the screen!!!”.

Thompson’s connection to Savage is not just as a fan as the two worked together on a Nickelodeon promo back in 1999. As of now, the project is in the early stages of development, with no timeline, attached talent, or distribution plans announced. It is also noted that WWE and its parent company, TKO Group, are not currently attached to the film.

Randy Savage, who passed away in May 2011 at the age of 58 after suffering a heart attack while driving, remains one of the most beloved and recognizable figures in wrestling history. Known for his flashy ring gear, his trademark voice, and his captivating promos, the “Macho Man” was a multi-time world champion in both WWE and WCW. His legendary career was defined by his iconic partnership with his wife, Miss Elizabeth, and multi-year rivalry with Hulk Hogan.
