A new optimistic update has emerged regarding the status of injured WWE Superstar Piper Niven. A recent report from Fightful Select has revealed that Niven is dealing with a serious neck injury, but despite initial fears that it could be career-ending, the belief within WWE is that she “will return.”
The Fightful Select report stated, “We’ve got a bit of an update on Piper Niven’s injury. We’re told that while the injury is serious, those we spoke to believe she will return. It’s a neck injury, and she’s still awaiting an official diagnosis. We will respect the privacy of the performer beyond that.” This update is encouraging after the report from Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live, where he had stated, “There’s concern that it could be career-ending, so whatever it is, it’s serious. Hopefully, she can come back, but she is out due to injury.”
Niven was last seen on the August 22 edition of SmackDown, which was taped in Dublin, Ireland. In that appearance, she scored a singles victory over one-half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, Charlotte Flair, a win that suggested big creative plans were in place for her before the injury brought her momentum to a halt. In her absence, her tag team partner, Chelsea Green, has been keeping their “Secret Hervice” gimmick alive on television, explaining Niven’s absence by claiming she is on a “top-secret special assignment” and has even been accepting applications for a temporary replacement.
Piper Niven first worked for WWE as a standout competitor in the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament in 2017. She later became a regular of the NXT UK brand before being called up to the main roster in 2021. After a period where she was repackaged as “Doudrop,” she eventually reverted to her original name, Piper Niven, and formed her tag team with Chelsea Green. The duo captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in August 2023 and have been an act ever since.
