The documentary SABU held its Las Vegas premiere on Tuesday, September 23, at The Nerd in Downtown Las Vegas. The event, hosted by MicroMania Tour, drew a capacity crowd of fans, friends, and wrestling industry insiders for a one-night-only screening celebrating the life and final days of the professional wrestling icon.
Among the attendees was Rob Van Dam, who served as a producer on the film. RVD, a longtime friend and collaborator of Sabu’s, was joined by Katie Forbes to honor the late performer. The premiere was the first public exhibition of the documentary, which chronicles Sabu’s journey leading up to his final match and the turbulent period before his passing.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Joe Clarke (known for Headstrong), the film provides a look into the life of one of wrestling’s most enigmatic figures. Sabu was a pioneer of the hardcore wrestling style, gaining worldwide fame in the 1990s with his high-risk, death-defying performances, most notably in Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). His influence is still seen in the generations of wrestlers who followed him.
The documentary is already receiving significant praise from early viewers and press coverage. According to the film’s press release, it is being called “one of the most unique, real, and raw wrestling documentaries ever made.” Other reactions have described the film as “chaotic, raw, and unforgettable” and a “landmark piece of wrestling cinema.”
Following the Las Vegas premiere, the SABU documentary has been made available for fans around the world. The film is now streaming exclusively on the Kinema platform.
