Masha Slamovich has been publicly accused of domestic violence by her former partner, independent wrestler AKIRA. In the hours following the allegations surfacing on Tuesday, September 23, TNA Wrestling launched an internal investigation, WWE reportedly paused plans involving her, and multiple independent promotions removed her from their upcoming events.
Masha Slamovich (real name Anna Khozina) is a Russian-born professional wrestler currently signed to TNA Wrestling, where she is a former Knockouts World Champion. In addition to her work with TNA, she is active on the independent circuit, most notably as a top star for Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). She is known for a hard-hitting and intense in-ring style.
AKIRA (real name Alexander Atkisson) is an American professional wrestler known for his work on the independent scene. He is primarily known as a deathmatch wrestler, a style that often involves the use of weapons like glass and barbed wire. He is also a prominent performer for GCW. The two were known to be a real-life couple and have worked together in on-screen storylines.
The allegations were first made public on Tuesday morning when a friend of AKIRA’s made a post on social media. According to a report from Jon Alba at Sports Illustrated, the post contained “dozens of screenshots and images, portraying alleged conversations” between Slamovich and AKIRA. The post reportedly contained a link to 114 images of the alleged evidence; this evidence has not been independently verified as of press time.
AKIRA later issued his own lengthy statement on social media, detailing elements of the turmoil in the relationship without mentioning Slamovich by name and claimed that he “nearly committed suicide on three separate occasions” during that time.
TNA Wrestling has responded to the situation. A scheduled TNA Knockouts World Championship match between Slamovich and champion Ash by Elegance for this Friday’s “Victory Road” event is no longer being advertised. In a statement provided to Sports Illustrated, a TNA spokesperson said, “We take any allegations like this very seriously, and have begun an internal investigation”.
The situation has also affected cross-promotional plans. According to a report from Fightful, WWE has “paused any plans to involve her in the invasion angle” between TNA and NXT.
Multiple independent wrestling promotions have also taken action. Prestige Wrestling and West Coast Pro both issued statements that Slamovich would no longer be competing at their respective “Roseland XII” and “How The West Was Won” shows. Additionally, Top Talent Wrestling announced that Slamovich will no longer appear at their event this Sunday, September 28th, in Edmonton.
Sports Illustrated noted that they reached out to Slamovich for an opportunity to comment on the situation but had not heard back as of press time.
