In a recent interview with The Schmo, The Miz voiced his frustration and anger at being excluded from John Cena’s ongoing retirement tour. The former WWE Champion believes his extensive history with Cena, which includes a WrestleMania main event, warrants one final match, and he is upset that fans have not been clamoring to see it.
The Miz explained why he feels slighted by the lack of fan demand for a final encounter between the two rivals. “It pisses me off as a WWE Superstar because I feel like I’ve had a big rivalry with John Cena,” he said. “I’ve had multiple WrestleMania’s with Cena, and yet the fans aren’t saying, ‘Hey we want The Miz vs. John Cena’.”
With Cena’s in-ring career winding down, The Miz highlighted the limited number of opportunities remaining and stated that he was the first to show interest in being one of Cena’s final opponents. “He has 5 dates left — That’s it. That’s 5 Superstars that are going to get the opportunity to be in the ring and I want myself to be one of them. I’ve been vocal. I’ve been the first person out there to say that I want to put my name in the hat to go against John Cena.”
Ultimately, The Miz placed the blame squarely on the WWE fans for prioritizing other opponents over him, effectively costing him a final match against Cena. “All the fans had to do was tweet and go on Instagram, and talk about it, get it riled up to where it would be John Cena vs. The Miz, one last time,” he said. “But no, you wanted the Randy Orton. You wanted the Brock Lesnar. You wanted the AJ Styles. You didn’t ask for this guy!”
John Cena is scheduled to face AJ Styles at WWE’s upcoming Crown Jewel premium live event in Saudi Arabia on November 8, 2025. With Cena’s final match set for December, the window is closing for The Miz to secure a spot on the farewell tour. Their most significant match took place in the main event of WrestleMania 27, where The Miz defeated Cena to retain the WWE Championship.
