How WWE’s Big E Used An Art Gallery, A Rooftop, And A Personal Chef For His Wedding Proposal

During a recent appearance on the “Stuck In My Thoughts” podcast, WWE star Big E shared the elaborate and personal story of how he proposed to his fiancĂ©e, Kristen (Kris Yim). He explained that after years together, he felt it was important to make the proposal a significant and memorable event.

Big E began by explaining the motivation behind the detailed proposal, noting that his fiancĂ©e had often teased him about their informal beginnings. “My fiance now, Kristen, she always kind of makes fun of me because I never officially asked her to be my girlfriend,” he said. “We just kind of, we went together… So I knew I had to make the proposal to do it the right way. I had to make sure it was done properly”.

To create the experience, Big E collaborated with a friend’s company, the Last Supper Society, and its chef, Byron. The proposal began at an art gallery, where he met Kristen. “We were looking around this art gallery downstairs, and eventually we get to a point where I lead her through, and they become pictures of us,” Big E recounted. “And then there’s a letter that I wrote to her framed on the wall as she’s reading it. I get back, get down behind her on a knee, and I propose”. The moment was captured by a photographer pretending to be another gallery guest and a hidden video camera.

Following the proposal, Big E led his fiancée up a staircase lit by candles to a private rooftop decorated with flowers, a fountain, a garden, and more framed pictures of the couple. There, Chef Byron served a nine-course meal designed to tell the story of their relationship, with each dish representing a meaningful moment or one of five cities they had traveled to together.

Big E shared a specific example of the meal’s storytelling. He told the chef about how he and Kristen first connected with a hug at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles, a location they returned to a year later for the NAACP Image Awards after-party, where he was nominated for a short film he was in about Ruby Bridges. To represent this, the chef created a special dish. “He makes this dish around a hug,” Big E explained. “For him, he always thinks of a hug as his grandmother’s chicken noodle soup. So he made this kind of, this variation on a chicken noodle soup using wontons… He just built this whole narrative”.

The entire evening was centered around their shared passion for unique dining experiences and the power of food to bring people together. “Fine dining is something that we both really love,” Big E said. “We love our dining experiences together. So having something centered around our love for food… we just had our whole love story over about nine different courses. Yes, it was really beautiful, and she really appreciated it”.
