Kofi Kingston appears to have avoided a serious injury after a scary moment during his match against LA Knight on this past Monday’s episode of Raw. According to a report from Bryan Alvarez, the former WWE Champion is not on the company’s internal injury list following the show.
“Kofi got rocked with a knee on RAW, but wasn’t listed on the internal injury report after the show, so apparently he’s OK,” Alvarez wrote. The match between Kingston and LA Knight was set up earlier in the night after a backstage confrontation. LA Knight approached Raw General Manager Adam Pearce to demand a World Heavyweight Championship match, noting that he was the last person to pin the current champion, Seth Rollins.
The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) then interrupted, making their own case for a World Tag Team Championship opportunity. After a brief verbal exchange where Kingston pointed out he was the only one in the group with world title experience, a singles match between Kingston and Knight was made for later in the evening. During the hard-fought contest, Knight’s knee appeared to connect with Kingston’s head, leaving the New Day member visibly rocked. Knight went on to win the match.
The New Day has recently formed an alliance with Grayson Waller, who has been acting as a third member of the group. Waller has been a constant presence in their backstage segments, most of which have revolved around a petition to ban the “Mexican Destroyer” maneuver, a move that Penta, has used on all three men. This trio even teamed up in a losing effort against Penta and The War Raiders in a No Disqualification six-man tag team match on the previous week’s episode of Raw.
With Kofi Kingston seemingly avoiding a serious injury, The New Day can now refocus on their quest to get back into the tag team title picture. Kingston and Xavier Woods are one of the most decorated tag teams in WWE history, having held tag team gold a record-setting 12 times.
