On Friday night at the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event, professional wrestler Bandido sustained a shoulder injury during his main event match. The incident occurred at the historic Arena Mexico in Mexico City, where he was defending his Ring of Honor (ROH) World Championship against challenger Hechicero. Despite the injury, Bandido successfully retained his title in the contest.
Following the event, Bandido provided details on the injury through a post to his Instagram account. He shared an image of his arm in a sling and offered a brief statement to his followers and CMLL fans. “Apologies to all the CMLL fans,” he wrote. “My shoulder popped out and went back into place. Thank you, Hechicero, for being a gentleman.”
The match was the second high-profile encounter between the two competitors in recent months. Their first meeting took place in August at Ring of Honor’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event, where Bandido was also victorious in defending the ROH World Championship. In his social media post, Bandido alluded to their series of matches, stating, “We owe a third match to all our Mexican fans,” suggesting a continuation of the rivalry is planned for the future.
The injury comes at a critical time for Bandido, who holds championships in multiple major promotions. In addition to his ROH World Championship, he is currently one-half of the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Tag Team Champions with his partner, Brody King. The team, known as “Brodido,” captured the titles at the Forbidden Door event on August 24 and has since defended them on four separate occasions, including one defense in CMLL.
This recent injury now casts uncertainty on his immediate professional schedule. Brodido is slated to defend the AEW World Tag Team Championship on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite. Their scheduled opponents are Konosuke Takeshita and Kazuchika Okada, who are members of the Don Callis Family faction.”
