In a title-for-title contest at NXT Showdown, TNA Tag Team Champions Matt and Jeff Hardy defeated NXT Tag Team Champions DarkState to unify the championships.
The Hardy Boyz, a team with a multi-decade career spanning numerous promotions, entered the match representing TNA. Their opponents, the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin of the faction DarkState, represented WWE’s NXT brand. TNA President Carlos Silva and The Dudley Boyz were seated in the front row.
Before the match could officially begin, all four members of the DarkState faction attacked Matt and Jeff Hardy. As a result, the referee ejected James and Shugars from the ringside area, ordering them to the back.
The conclusion of the match saw Matt Hardy reverse a “Doomsday” double-team maneuver attempted by DarkState. Following the counter, Matt delivered his signature “Twist of Fate” finishing move to Osiris Griffin. Lennox then attempted an aerial attack from the top rope, but Matt moved out of the way, causing Lennox to miss his target. Matt Hardy capitalized on the opening and executed a second “Twist of Fate” on Lennox.
With both members of DarkState incapacitated, Matt Hardy tagged in his brother, Jeff Hardy. Jeff ascended to the top rope and performed his “Swanton Bomb” maneuver, landing on Dion Lennox. Jeff Hardy then secured the pinfall, winning the match for his team. With the victory, The Hardy Boyz became the new NXT Tag Team Champions while retaining their TNA Tag Team Championship, unifying the titles.
