Former Champion Returns To A WWE Ring For The First Time In 18 Months

Omos made a surprise return to a WWE ring on Thursday night, appearing at the NXT live event in Columbus, Ohio. In his return match, Omos defeated Lexis King in a short bout after performing a chokeslam. He worked the match as a babyface.

His appearance at a non-televised NXT event, as opposed to on Raw or SmackDown, suggests a continued strategy by WWE to have him work matches and gain in-ring repetitions away from the main television cameras. This is not a new practice for Omos, who worked a long series of non-televised house show matches against Akira Tozawa throughout 2024.

Omos’s return to an NXT ring follows a year-long international excursion where, while still under WWE contract, he was sent to work with the company’s partner promotions. He first appeared in Japan’s Pro Wrestling Noah, where he was a member of the Team 2000X stable. There, he and his partner Daga won the GHC Tag Team Championship at the “Noah The New Year” pay-per-view event.

On January 25, 2025, Omos announced he would be leaving Noah to return to WWE, handing his GHC Tag Team Championship to Daga before the title was officially vacated. Following his run in Japan, WWE sent Omos to Mexico to work for Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, a promotion that WWE acquired in 2025.

At AAA’s biggest event of the year, Triplemanía XXXIII, Omos competed in and won the 2025 Bardahl Cup. His time in both Japan and Mexico allowed him to gain valuable experience and championship success outside of the primary WWE brands.

WWE has had a varied history with managing performers of Omos’s size, with some, like Big Show, achieving long-term main event success, while others, like Giant Gonzalez, had shorter, less impactful runs. The current approach of providing Omos with non-televised matches and international experience appears to be a calculated one for his long-term development.
