According to a new report from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning to invite “leading political figures” to attend John Cena’s final professional wrestling match, which is scheduled for a special Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13 in Washington, D.C. The report also notes that while President Donald Trump has not yet confirmed his attendance, the possibility remains open.
“They expect leading political figures to be invited and attend this show,” Meltzer wrote. “Donald Trump has not confirmed coming. He has confirmed being at the Army vs. Navy football game. The game will be at M&T Stadium in Baltimore at 3 p.m. that day, so he easily, if he wanted to, could get to the show.”
The report adds that “the belief is there will be a ton of people from the White House at the show, but Trump is undecided at the moment, but a lot of major people have already told WWE they are coming.” This effort to have a significant political presence at the event is part of a larger strategy, as the creative staff was reportedly told that a planned UFC show at the White House in June 2026 is expected to be “the biggest sports event in American history.”
The McMahon family has a long and well-documented history with Donald Trump. He has appeared on WWE programming multiple times, most famously in the “Battle of the Billionaires” at WrestleMania 23, and was inducted into the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Linda McMahon served in President Trump’s first administration as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019.
This latest news comes just a week after Stephanie McMahon, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and Linda McMahon were at the White House to support a new executive order focused on pediatric cancer research. During that event, Stephanie McMahon delivered a speech in which she told the story of WWE fan Connor “The Crusher” Michalek and thanked the President for his support of the initiative.
Per Meltzer, while not officially announced, Cena’s final opponent is scheduled to be former World Heavyweight Champion, GUNTHER. The upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event is being positioned as a major media event, combining the farewell of one of wrestling’s biggest all-time stars with a significant presence from the world of politics.
