While guest-hosting Busted Open Radio, Bishop Dyer gave a review of the match between John Cena and AJ Styles at WWE Crown Jewel, calling the encounter “perfection from top to bottom.” He praised both wrestlers for their in-ring storytelling and the immense trust they displayed.
“I knew they were going to kill it, because they have better chemistry than a lot of people,” he said. “They didn’t try to compete with their other matches… They still went out there and they told a story from bell to bell, and that’s why they’re the best to ever do this.”
He shared a personal story about AJ Styles’s toughness and desire for realism in the ring. “I remember one time we did this cut-off… I would run, and I would kick him in the chest,” he recalled. After one match where he felt he went too light, Styles gave him a direct note. “After the match, he goes, ‘Hey, you got to kick me like you mean it.’ So the next night, I kicked him, he went like 15 feet, landed on his back, slid across the floor. I was like, ‘Better?’ And he just looked up at me and nodded. He’s a guy that wants that.”
He also commended Cena for his willingness to put his body on the line at this stage of his career. “Cena is gonna be a billion-dollar Hollywood entity… and he’s going out there and putting his body on the line. He’s giving his body to AJ Styles a lot of times with things that you got to have trust with the guy you’re working with,” he stated. “It’s really cool to see Cena at this point in his career, trust AJ with such big and dangerous moves.”
The match between John Cena and AJ Styles took place at the Crown Jewel premium live event in Perth, Australia, on October 11, 2025. The bout, which was part of Cena’s ongoing retirement tour, was filled with tributes to both men’s careers and received widespread praise from fans and critics.
