Matt Hardy: Young Bucks Vs. Edge And Christian “Would Be A Hot Series”

Matt Hardy believes a potential match between The Young Bucks and the duo of Edge and Christian would be a “very special” encounter for All Elite Wrestling. Speaking on the latest episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the multi-time tag team champion discussed the dream match between the two generations of tag teams, stating it would be a major program that could benefit the entire company.

A Battle of Generations

When asked what a match between the “Bucks of Youth” and Edge and Christian would look like, Hardy was definitive in his praise for the potential matchup. He noted that while both teams have long histories, they are very much current, top-level acts. “I think a match between the books of youth and Edge and Christian would be a very special match,” Hardy said.

“I think it is a battle of generations, and Edge and Christian are both killing it now. Guys much like Jeff and I, people say, Oh, nostalgia. We’re not fucking nostalgic. We are present acts working presently. And Edge and Christian are as well. They’re both on the top of their game. Edge and Christian versus the Young Bucks would be a hot series. It would be a great feud, especially if done right and programmed right and it’s a match I would 100% be everything.”

Character Comparisons

Hardy drew comparisons between the character work of both teams, specifically how The Young Bucks have leaned into the perception of them held by die-hard internet fans, much like Edge and Christian did when they turned heel in 2000. “I mean, the Bucks are so good at just kind of reading the room and looking at how the internet or people that aren’t, you know, casual fans who are more die hard fans, how they look at them, and how they perceive them, and they lean into that, which is something that works really well for them,” he explained.

“That’s something Edge and Christian did whenever they turn Hill, right before Wrestlemania, 2000, you know, because they were almost close to being split at that point, and they turned heel, and they really started clicking.”

A Top Program for AEW

Hardy, who named Edge & Christian and The Young Bucks as his two favorite teams to wrestle, believes a program between the two duos could be a major storyline for AEW that could last for the better part of a year. He expressed confidence that both teams would enjoy working with one another. “I think they could have an amazing, like 6-7-8 month program that would be good for AEW and help AEW get hot again,” Hardy stated.

When asked if he thought Adam Copeland and Jay would enjoy working with the Bucks, Hardy replied, “I do. I think they would greatly enjoy working with the Bucks.”
