Cody Rhodes opens WWE SmackDown:

SmackDown opened with GM Nick Aldis’ said tonight’s match between Drew McIntyre and Jacob Fatu is now a #1 contender’s match for the Undisputed WWE Championship. He introduced Cody Rhodes who came to the ring. Cody Rollins said Seth Rollins beat him at Crown Jewel. They will probably meet again, but for now, Rollins can handle his business on Raw and he will handle SmackDown business. 

Backstage:

Fenix was getting photos taken when MTF entered. Solo Sikoa told the cameraman to take his pictures now. Fenix said he has a few more pictures before he’s done. Solo said he’s done now. MTF attacked Fenix before officials stopped them.

WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss (Champions) vs Sol Ruka & Zaria

Ruka hit the Sol Snatcher on Flair but Bliss broke up the pin. Zaria caught Bliss coming off the ring apron and slammed her head into the barricade. Flair came outside the ring and kicked Zaria. As Flair went to check on Bliss, Ruka came off the ring apron onto Charlotte who had moved Bliss out of the way. Monroe was cheering on what she saw. As Ruka confronted Monroe, Flair chopped Ruka’s legs out from underneath her. Flair then tossed Ruka into the ring and locked in the figure-8 causing Ruka to submit. Flair & Bliss retain the titles. The two teams shook hands after the match.

Winners and still WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions: Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss

Backstage:

Jacob Fatu told Cody Rhodes that when he’s done with Drew McIntyre, he will show Cody that he’s all gas and no breaks. Cody said, “I hope you’re right”, and they shook hands.

Vignette:

Black said everything he’s done has been a calculated move for months, and the assistance of his wife, Zelina Vega, was all part of the plan.

Backstage:

The Miz was shaking hands with Nick Aldis when Sami Zayn entered. Zayn asked Aldis why the U.S. Title Open Challenge wasn’t happening. Aldis said Shinsuke Nakamura deserves a rematch. He saw what MFT did to him last week and they are still running around. Zayn said he’s going to the ring to defend the title, and if anybody wants a shot, they know where to find him.

United States Open Challenge Match: Sami Zayn (Champion) vs Ilja Dragunov

As the Miz was getting ready to accept Zayn’s challenge, Carmelo Hayes attacked him from behind. Ilja Dragunov returned after a 13-month absence from his injury to face Zayn. They shook hands to start the match. Zayn was going for the Helluva Kick but stopped when he saw Solo Sikoa at the entrance way. Solo walked away. Zayn turned around and caught a charging Dragunov with the Exploder. Zayn charged at Dragunov who caught him with the Torpedo Bomb and the H-Bomb to pin him and win the championship.

Winner and new United States Champion: Ilja Dragunov

After the match, the MFT attacked Zayn and Dragunov. Fenix tried to make the save Talla Tonga chokeslammed him. Solo said MFT runs SmackDown. They are going to get back everything his family lost he will make his MFT champions again.

Bray Wyatt appeared on the video wall and asked MFT if they are prepared for what’s on the other side. They turned around and the other four members of Wyatt Sicks were on the ring apron. They had a staredown until MFT left the ring.

Backstage:

Tiffany Stratton said her loss to Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel  would not affect her as she’s still the WWE Women’s Champion. Kiana James entered and said Stratton is not a premium talent like Giulia. Stratton challenged James to a match next week on SmackDown.

Earlier today:

Motor City Machine Guns were celebrating their one-year anniversary in WWE when Los Garza entered the room. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley pointed out that it was Angel and Berto who lost to them in their debut match, said they would like to make it a yearly thing, and challenged them to a match tonight.

The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley) vs Los Garza (Angel & Berto)

Berto dove over the top rope onto the Guns. He threw Sabin into the ring. Sabin kicked Angel in the face followed by the Skull and Bones to pin him.

Winners: Motor City Machine Guns

Backstage:

Fraxiom and #DIY argued with each other. Axiom got mad at Johnny Gargano for making fun of his mask and challenged him to a match.

Jacob Fatu injury angle:

As the introduction for the match between Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre was starting, they cut backstage where Jacob was on the ground bloodied up.

As officials and Nick Aldis were checking on Jacob, Drew McIntyre’s music played and he made his way to the ring. McIntyre told the referee to raise his hand. Aldis came out and Drew said he had nothing to do with Jacob and asked him to give him the number one contender’s match.

Cody Rhodes came out to the middle of the aisle and told Drew he knows what he did. He told Drew that if he wants the title that bad, come and get it. Drew met him in the aisle and they brawled around the ring. The bell rang to start the match.

They brawled throughout the match. Cody hit Drew with the Cody Cutter. Drew slid out of the ring. Cody dove through the ropes and got hit with a forearm to the side of the face. Drew threw Cody over the barricade. Cody hit Drew over the head with his title and the referee called for the bell.

Cody cleared the announce table. As he grabbed Drew, Drew raked his eyes. Cody slammed Drew’s head on the table. As he was getting ready to give Drew the Cross Rhodes, the referees came out to separate them. Cody escaped and dove over the top rope on Drew to end the show.
