Nick Jackson: “It Feels Like Everyone Is Retiring…and We’re Not Far Behind.”

In an interview with “The Takedown on SI,” AEW’s Matthew and Nicholas Jackson, The Young Bucks, discussed their upcoming match at AEW WrestleDream, the strength of the current tag team division, and their thoughts on their own mortality in the business.

The Young Bucks, who are set to face the reunited Jurassic Express (“Jungle” Jack Perry and Luchasaurus) at AEW WrestleDream on October 18, 2025, described the upcoming bout as a nostalgic moment that feels full circle.”I think the last time we actually wrestled them was in the same exact arena… the ladder match,” Nicholas said. “That was one of my favorite Dynamite matches we ever had.” Matthew added, “We have enough history now where acts and wrestlers feel nostalgic in a way, which is crazy because these six years have gone by so fast. A good example of that was Jurassic Express uniting and 12,000 people were standing on their feet going, ‘What a feel-good moment.'”

The Young Bucks praised the current state of AEW’s tag team division. “It’s probably the most elite tag division since, you know, the beginning when AEW first started,” according to Nicholas. Matthew credited new teams like champions Brodido and Jet Speed for breathing new life into the scene. “It’s really helped us out because it’s given us new teams to play with. It’s kept us young and it’s kept us excited to do more every week,” Matthew said. “We joke backstage that  if you don’t know how to wrestle in 2025 on Dynamite, you are screwed. You got to be the best in the world, the elite of the elite.”

With the recent retirements of legends like The Hardys, The Dudleys, Sting, and John Cena, Nicholas reflected on the end of an era. “It feels like everyone is retiring. It’s very weird. It’s like a whole generation is wrapping up and we’re not far behind it, which kind of scares me.” This led to a discussion about their own remaining “bucket list” opponents, with Matthew identifying one specific team: Adam Copeland and Christian Cage.

“I told someone this… that might be our last big money match, dream match that is left. I think we’ve done them all and that might be it.  I hope we can do it and it would be silly not to do it,” Matthew said.
