During his guest-hosting spot on Something to Wrestle, JBL shared some legendary stories about WWE Hall of Famer Michael Hayes, whom he called “batshit crazy” and “the gift that keeps on giving”.
JBL, who was a guest at Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s wedding 22 years ago, recalled a memorable moment involving Hayes. “It’s freaking Michael Hayes, of course it was,” JBL said. “he turns into the Free Bird, and at one point, Kurt Angle goes up to get the microphone from him, because Michael is so far passed over the line that you can’t even see the line where he is looking backwards”.
“Kurt Angle goes up, tries to take the microphone from Michaels, ‘Who have you beat? Well, the whole world. I literally the whole way he literally beat the whole world,'” JBL said, imitating Hayes. The situation was only resolved when a higher authority stepped in. “Linda grabs the microphone from Michael, and Michael’s like a little kid, like and goes and goes and sits down”.
JBL also told a story from a Doral Golf Tournament, where he and The Undertaker charged a massive bar bill to Hayes’ room. An enraged Hayes found out and sped towards them in a golf cart. “Michael is driving up in his golf cart, and he’s flying, I mean, flying… I think he’s gonna get out and punch me,” JBL recalled.
“Michael comes up and he’s flying his golf cart, and he comes up on the tee, and he hits the brakes right in front of me, and there’s dew on the ground, and he slides right over the tee, right down the hill and right to the lake,” he said. “Sings a golf cart in the lake, and as he’s going down, like, look you rad, y’all, he’s going down with the ship.”
