Matt Hardy shared his perspective on the controversial fish tank spot from the Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin I Quit match at AEW WrestleDream, addressing the online outrage surrounding it on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy.
Hardy acknowledged the spot but downplayed its severity in the context of AEW’s programming. “I saw this spot, and by no means do I think this is the worst thing that AEW has ever done, you know?” he stated. He argued that AEW often appeals to a specific type of fan. “I think right now, if you watch AEW and you’re one of the fans, you know, they cater to more of a hardcore audience in many ways… just people who, like hardcore wrestling and more adult-oriented wrestling”.
He pointed out that controversial moments aren’t exclusive to AEW. “But, I mean, you can say that from TNA, you can say that from WWE, there’ve been incidents that have happened across all those places where there’ve been controversial things”.
Hardy expressed frustration with the intense negativity often found in online wrestling discussions. “So there was a lot of outrage about it. And just, once again, online, the discourse is just exhausting. If you hate something and you just had nothing but disdain and discuss for it, just don’t watch it,” he urged. “On top of not watching it, like, don’t comment on it… If there’s something you hate, don’t watch it. Don’t comment on it, don’t talk about it. That’s the best way”.
He concluded by stating that AEW President Tony Khan is providing content for his specific audience. “It is what it is that is what Tony Khan’s audience digs. And he is catering to his audience… this is Tony Khan’s company. It’s Tony Khan’s money… So I mean, they can do what they want to do. And I mean, this isn’t something to be so outraged about… if it’s something you don’t like, then it’s simple, don’t watch,” Matt reiterated.
