According to ScreenRant.com Dwayne Johnson is teaming up with Disney once again and has been officially cast in the upcoming animated movie Zootopia 2. The film, a sequel to the 2016 blockbuster, is set to release on November 26.
Johnson’s New Character
It has been confirmed that Johnson will be joining the cast as the voice of a new character named Zeke. According to Zeke’s official description, he is an “accident-prone dik-dik who meets with a musical mishap as a result of Judy and Nick’s high-speed pursuit gone awry.”
Sequel Details and Cast
Zootopia 2 will follow the original film’s protagonists, rabbit cop Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and her partner Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman), as they attempt to figure out a new case, which is described as “even more dangerous and confusing than the last.”
The animated sequel is directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard. Bush has worked on other Disney movies, including Encanto and Moana. Idris Elba is also returning to his role as ZPD’s water buffalo, Chief Bogo. Johnson is joined by several other new cast members, including Ke Huy Quan (as the voice of Gary), Fortune Feimster (as the voice of Nibbles), and Andy Samberg (as the voice of Pawbert Lynxley).
Success of the Original
The sequel comes nearly 10 years after the original Zootopia, which was a massive critical and financial success for Disney. The 2016 film earned over $1 billion at the box office on a budget of $105 million.
It became the third-highest-grossing film for Walt Disney Animation Studios and won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The movie was also a hit with audiences, earning an A at Cinemascore, and currently holds a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It also set a new March record for an animated film opening at the time of its release.
